Author Interview- Foram Mamtora

1)

Can you tell us a little about your magazine?

The compilation replete with a bunch of narratives about India's rich architecture, its colorful culture and the historical journey behind it. I have picked up and put together some of the architectural gems of India, each with its own stories on the emergence of its built environment.

2)

Is there a specific event that inspired this story or was this out of the blue idea?

Earlier this year, I attended a workshop on 'Cultural anthropology'. It delved into and demonstrated some of the iconic-historical landmarks of India alongside the anecdotes attributed to it. It provided me with a fresh perspective and an opportunity to grok the different facets of Indian history, architecture & culture tracing its roots. One thing led to another and it got me deliberating on the idea of designing a compilation in form of a magazine. So that I could share my learning and takeaways with a larger audience.

3)

What got you writing in the first place?

I cut my writing teeth back in my college days. While working on the architectural projects, I used to pen down my thoughts and started writing articles.

4)

What was your impression of your first draft when you read it?

A sense of relief and satisfaction. It turned out in the same lines how I wanted and envisioned it, and felt had come a long way with it. Having said that, it still called for some refinement after that.

5)

Which part of your story connects the most with you? Why?

Taj Mahal and its stories. I've really enjoyed working on this part of the magazine the most. It just kept me intrigued as I went on to learn more about the structure.  Also, we all have grown up hearing about Taj Mahal and its stories. While working on the magazine, it gave me a chance to explore and unfold more about this masterpiece and its mysteries. The subject just made me want to know and dig more about it. So, it's been like first you learn and then you remove the "L". The entire process of crafting and creating the content has been very interesting for me.

6)

What makes your magazine the one to read?

India is a diverse land with its communities & culture. The readers will get an insight into the stories and significance of some of the architectural and historical wonders that we have in our own country. They will be able to explore and unveil more about these structures. So, next time when they travel, they would visit these places with a more enriched state of mind. The magazine will definitely interest the travel enthusiasts, architects, history lovers, explorers and more types!

7)

What was the best advice you got while writing?

Attention to details matters. Small things can make a big difference and it goes a long way.

8)

Who’s your all time favorite author? Which book of his/hers made you fall in love with them?

To be honest, I’m not an avid reader. But I like Sudha Murthy’s work. I absolutely enjoyed reading “Wise and otherwise” by her.

9)

What is your evergreen tip to the writers out there?

Be your own kind of smith. Put your pen to paper and get your creative juices flowing. Hard work is the magic that works.

10)

Do you have another plot brewing?

I definitely look forward to the next issue of my magazine. Here’s hoping soon!
