Author Interview Zaina K

1. Can you tell us a little about your book?

The book focuses on the mental health of adolescents and how they are unable to talk about it and ask for help. It conveys the problem in a fictional way for readers to be able to better connect with it.

2. Is there a specific event that inspired this story or was this an out of the blue idea?

Not really. I was always the kind of girl who sat in the corner observing people, always alone, and I often went through the problems shown in the book. I wanted to make the world realize how much teenagers suffer, and how they can deal with it.

3. What got you writing in the first place?

I love reading, and being able to creatively convey your thoughts, and make an impact is the greatest feeling.

4. What was your impression of your first draft when you read it?

I wasn't completely sure of my book, and felt that my friends and teachers were giving me biased feedback, but I felt I did a pretty good job, and kept my confidence high.

5.  Which part of your story connects the most with you? Why?

There isn't a single part that connects with me, all of it connects with me. Like I said, I have experienced some of the problems mentions.

6. What makes your book the one to read?

Well, first of all, it is short and crisp, and it is interesting. It conveys a serious and emotional issue in a creative and fictional way for teenagers to understand.

7. What was the best advice you got while writing?

That there are gonna be many types of readers, and you can't satisfy them all. So, why bum yourself out trying to that?

8. Who’s your all-time favourite author? Which book of his/hers made you fall in love with them?

Rick Rordan, and his percy jackson series. All of his series are amazing.

9. What is your evergreen tip to the writers out there?

Don't pressure yourself by trying to give readers what they expect from you, write what your heart wants.

10. What was your hardest scene to write?

The death scene, and the scenes after the death of the side character were tough to write, since I had to be delicate with the emotions of the character.

11. Do you have another plot brewing?

Yes, but it is for a completely different kind of novel, more like a murder mystery.
